King Charles I and The Massachusettes Bay Colony
King Charles I didn't like the Puritans. They were persecuted. Then a group of wealthy Puritans created the Massachusettes Bay Colony for religious freedom. -
Thomas Hooker
Thomas Hooker also left the Puritans on his own. He and his followers founded Hartford. -
Roger Williams
Roger Williams was the first to escape from the Puritans. They were going to imprison him in jail so he fled. -
The Pequot War
The Pequot war was between the Pequots and the Connecticut settlers. The Connecticut settlers won the war in 1638. -
Anne Hutchinson
Anne Hutchinson questions the teaching of the Puritan minister and was told that her actions were inappropriate. Then she got banished from the colony. She later formed Portsmouth in Rhode Island. -
The Toleration Act
The Toleration Act gave Christian Maryland settlers religious freedom. -
North and South Carolina
In 1729 colonists decided to separate Carolina into the South and North Carolinas.
