treaty of paris 1763
France's expansion to the Ohio river valley caused conflict with British colonies. In July 1758 the British won their first great victory at Louis burg. In September 1760, France lost their last foothold on Canada, but soon got joined by Spain -
the proclamation line of 1763
After the French and Indian war, Britain tighten over its autonomous colonies. It stopped westward expansion of the colonies. Only the Empire would make relation with the natives. Only licensed traders could travel west. It was supposed to be temporary, but was kept until the eve of the revolution. -
Sugar Act
Parliament passed a modified version of the sugar and molasses act. It and the currency act set the stage for the revolt at the imposition at the stamp act. -
Stamp act
It is a tax on all paper documents. It caused mob violence against stamp collectors.Ten years later, colonists rose in armed rebellion against the British. -
quartering act
It requires colonies to house British soldiers. It caused fights, like the Boston Massacre. -
Townshend Act
It imposed duties on glass, lead, paper, paint, and tea. It was hoped to defray the imperial expenses in the colonies, but was viewed as an abuse of power. In response, parliament repealed all the Townshend duties except tea tax. -
Boston Massacre
British soldiers supporting a sentry shot an attacking mob. The first shot was from a soldier who thought he heard the command to fire, and the others joined in. -
Committees of Correspondence
It was the Colonies' first institution to keep in touch. The Virginia of house of Burgess proposed each colonial legislature appoint a standing committee. -
Tea Act
It is a tax on tea that made colonists angry.This was the main reason for the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
Samuel Adams threw millions 500,000 gallons of chests of tea overboard a boat dressed as native Americans. This was a protest against the Tea Act. -

It was made as a punishment for Bostonians for the Boston Tea Party. To oppose of what Britain was expecting, this caused the colonies to help Boston. -
First Continental Congress
It is the colonies' first government. It was started in response to the intolerable acts to help Boston. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
The British were marching from Boston to Concord, but were discovered by Americans which sounded the alarm. That started the first battle in the American Revolution. -
Second Continental Congress
It was convened after the American Revolution started. It is the colonies' new government. In 1776, it declared independence from Britain. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The British were traveling through Massachusetts, but were found by Americans, which sounded the alarm. This was the first battle of many. Athough the Americans lost, they killed enough British troops that it is a small victory for them. -
Thomas Paine's "common sense"
It fundamentally changed the tenor of colonists' argument with the crown. It said how all of Europe made America, not just England. -
Declaration of Independence
It was a statement of what America wanted their country to be like. It is a symbol of our country. It showed the main rights of the American people. -
Washington's crossing of the Delaware River
Washington managed to bring a few thousand across the Delaware River. They captured one-thousand Hessian people at the cost of only four American lives, which helped mainly by raising Americans' spirits. -
Battle of Saratoga
This was made up of two battles. The first was a costly victory for Britain. This weakened the British so the Americans won the second. This is why the French, who is Britain's enemy, joined America in the war. -
Battle of Yorktown
It is when British General Lord Charles Cornwallis and 9,000 British troops were defeated by the French and the Americans. This ended the Revolutionary war. -
Treaty of Paris 1783
It ended the Revolution. It was made as proof of America's victory and that it is a new country.
