Childhood
Jackie's father left the family in 1920. They moved to Pasadena soon after. Jackie grew up in poverty and was excluded from many recreational oppurtunities. For a short time, he was in a neighborhood gang.

High School
Jackie played varsity football, baseball, track and baseball at John Muir High School.

College
At Pasadena Junior College, Jackie played the same sports, and broke the school jump records, which were held by his brother Mack. Jackie was also arrested after vocally disputing the detention of a black friend by police. Jackie recieved a 2 year suspended sentence.

UCLA
After graduating Pasadena Junior College in spring 1939, Jackie attended UCLA. He was the school's first athlete to win varsity letters in 4 sports (same as high school and college). He also met his future wife at UCLA. In the spring semester in 1941, Jackie left college. He took a job as an assistant athletic director with the government's National Youth Administration.

Military
In 1942, Jackie was drafted and assigned to a segregated unit in Fort Riley,Kansas. After an incident with a racist bus driver, Jackie served as a coach at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky until he was honorably discharged in 1944. While there, he met a former Kansas City Monarchs player who encouraged Jackie to try out.

Negro Leagues
Jackie accepted a written offer by the Kansas City Monarchs for $400 per month, which is $5,164 in today's money. He didn't enjoy the experience due to gambling and disorganization, but on October 23, 1945, he was signed with the Montreal Royals next season. On February 10, 1946, he married his wife Isum.

Minors
Jackie arrived at Daytona Beach, Florida with the Montreal Royals for spring training, AAA class. His presence was controversial in rracially charged Florida. Robinson made his Royals debut at Daytona Beach's City Island Ballpark on March 17, 1946, in an exhibition game against the team's parent club, the Dodgers.

Majors
7 days before the season, Jackie was called up, thus breaking the color line. He soon was subject to foul play from other racist teams, and outstanding stats. He led in sacrafice hits and stolen bases.

Retirement
After a championship win against the Yankees, Robinson was going down hill. He was suppose to get traded to the Giants, but retired.

Death
Jackie Robinson died of a heart attack in Stamford, Connecticut.
