Italy Leading to ultranationalism

  • Italy siding with France and Britan in WWI

    At the secret treaty of London Italy was promised the Adriatic coast at the end of the war. This deal was given to them because Italy changed sides from helping Germany to being on Britans side.
  • Treaty of Versailles not giving Italy land

    Italy was promised to get land at end of the war. The war had caused Italy to be in massive debt to the USA. Many Italians died in the war but Italy was almost ignored at the treaty.
  • Mussolini becomes elected

    The National Bloc party takes power of Italy. They won in a landslide. The party used intimidation as a major factor to become elected.
  • Control of the media

    All political parties and differing newspapers where banned in Italy. This gaev Mussolini the power to control what his citizens new. This gave him full control.
  • Changing of police and laws

    A new secret police force was set up called the OVRA. This may have been created to oppress people with differing viewpoints. They where probably used to keep undisierables out of the way. The death penalty was also reintroduced for serious political offences.
  • Mussolini takes full control

    Mussolini appoints members to the facist grand council. From 1928 on all constitutional issues had to be consulted with the Facist Grand council. The people he appointed would do anything he said. After the change Mussolini said "Any possibility of choice is eliminate "I never dreamed of a chamber like yours."
  • Invasion of Ethiopea.

    Italy taking over Ethiopea in a demonstration of superior miltary might was seen as an event that prepared WWII. The league of Nations attempted to put economic sanctions on Italy. These sanctions lacked support and did nothing.
  • Abolishment of Goverment

    By this tiime the aproval of everything Mussolini believed was so high that parliment was abolished. This shows how Mussolini's Facist Grand council took full control. This control was even felt at local levels. Once powerful mayors were replaced by magistrates who where only answerable to rome.
