  • Balfour Declaration

    After WW1, Britain seizes control of the area from the Ottoman Empire. The declaration is named after their Foreign Secretray, Arthur Balfour. It names Palestine as a Jewish refuge and "National Home." This was in support of the Zionist movement which was established due to European anti-semetism. (PBS)
  • UN Partitian Plan

    UN Partitian Plan
    The UN decides do break up the territory between the Palistians and the Israelis. They make Jordan no-mans-land, giving it to both sides. Israel agreed reluctantly but it caused a Palistinian call to arms. It also mandated the removal of British Troops, an economics system, and religious freedom. (BBC)
  • Tripartite Declaration of 1950

    The goverenments of the US, the UK, and France meet in London to discuss the support of Peace in the Middle East, stating they will take action if either side picks up arms. This was eventually overturned when the Soviet Union began providing the Palestinians with arms. (Arab Information Center)
  • The PLO is formed

    The PLO, which stands for Palestinian Liberation Organization, consists of Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebonon. The Fahtah was a subgroup of the PLO but soon became the military branch of the group. They are against the formation of a Jewish state. (BBC)
  • Six Days War

    Six Days War
    Through June tenth, Israilis engage Egyptian, Syrian, and Jordanians in an attack. The Palestinians call this Six Days War, "al-Naksah" which is translated as "the setback." Israel triples its territory, taking land in the Gaza Strip, Senai Penninsula, Golan hieghts, and the West Bank. The Israelis begin to build settlements in these areas which they begin calling by the locations' biblical names. The Palestinians see this as a breech of international law. (PBS)
  • Yom-Kippur/Ramadan War

    Started by Egypt and Syria to take back the Sinai Penninsula. Each side was taking their yearly mandated fast. It lasted until October 22. Israel kept the territory after a Palistinian retreat. (PBS)
  • Intifada

    This is the first Palistinian protest in which citizens were widely involved in the opposition rather than just the PLO. Women even joined in the more violent protest. It was action against Jewish occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. 20,000 people died or were injured in a decade during these uprisings. (PBS)
  • Hamas Founding

    HAMAS, which stands for Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiyya, began as a Palestinian resistence group. They now, since then, have been the majority in the Palestinian Parlement. (Ebsco Host)
  • Attack on Palistinians

    2,200 people, of whom were a majority of Palistinians, were killed in a battle that lasted for 50 days. There were even more injured among those effected. On August 26th, Hamas and the government of Israel negotiated a ceasefire. (BBC News)
  • Israeli Blockade of Palestine

    The Israeli forces have been blockading the Gaza strip since the election of HAMAS. This includes a denying of humanitarian aid. (2016 marks...)
