USA TODAY The Untied States withdraws aid to Egypt for the Aswan Dam Project, infuriating Nasser. He nationalizes the Suez Canal on July 26, 1956. Britain, witch owns nearly half of the Suez Canal Comany, seeks to prevent to prevent the nationalization by joing with Paris France and to gain control of the waterway that is Isreali's. A United Nation force occupies the area in March 1957 and reopends the canal on April 24, 1956.
