Birth of Muhammad, Islam Prophet
Muhammed, A Muslim who conquered surrounding areas, was born in 570 A.D. Muslims entered Jerusalem and built a mosque in 637. -
Early settlers establish foothold
A movement called "Lovers of Zion" began in the 1880s, then in 1897 officially started in Switzerland and the goal was to create a home for the Jewish people in Palestine. -
British Declaration
Britain established a Jewish homeland in Palestine. It became known that nothing should discriminate against the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities -
Arab Revolt
Nazis entered into Europe which caused many Jews to escape to Palestine. When Britain restricted immigration the Jews still found a way into Palestine anyway. -
U.N. Plan
The U.N. General Assembly made a plan to divide Palestine into Jewish and Palestinian states. Jew Agencies were opposed to this new law, Arab states voted against it but Britain declined. -
Statehood and war
Britain gave up on the new decree and Israel recognized themselves as an independent state. Five Arab armies instantly attacked. -
Establishment of PLO
The Palestine Liberation Organization was endowed and their main focus was to destroy the state of Israel. -
Arab surprise attack
Arab soldiers attack Israel to reclaim the land that was taken in 1967. After some setbacks, the Israel military repulsed the attack. -
Palestine control of the West Bank
Palestinian authority was made to control the West Bank and Gaza. Accords soon gave Palestinians partial control which was 40% of the West Bank and most of the Gaza. -
