    Europe decided to colonize in Palestine, they represented an extremist minority of the jewish population, known as Zionists. Their goal was to create a homeland for the jewish people. As more zionist migrated to Palestine ideas of taking over the land for the a jewish state became popular. This alarmed the indigenous population and fighting broke out.

    The United nations decided to intervene in the conflict. However, instead of sticking to the principle of “self-determination of peoples” where the people can create their own state and system of government. The UN chose to let an outside power, themselves, divide up the people land. The UN gave 55% of Palestine to the jewish state.

    Throughout this war Zionist forces outnumbered all Arab and Palestinian. Zionist forces committed 33 massacres altogether. By the end of the war, Israel had conquered 78 percent of Palestine. Three-quarters of a million Palestinians had been made refugees, and over 500 towns and villages had been destroyed. A new map was drawn up, where every city river and hill was given a new hebrew name. All of the remaining palestinian culture was erased.

    In 1967 Israel conquered more land following the six day war, where Israeli forces launched a surprise attack on Egypt that was very successful. Israel conquered the finale 22% of Palestine, the west bank and Gaza strip.
  • Camp David accords

    Camp David accords
    President Anwar Sadat of Egypt, Prime Minister Menachem Begin of Israel and President Jimmy Carter of the United States sign the Camp David accords. Israel agrees to hand back the sinai peninsula to Egypt. In return for this they wanted peace and normalization. This was the first time an Arab country signed a peace treaty with Israel and accepted the state's existence.

    Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin signed a Declaration of Principles in Washington. However, they could not resolve all the issues right away. They agreed to make gradual steps towards a final settlement of the conflict, trading land for peace and working out difficult issues that stood in the way of the a final agreement. In the end the two sides were no longer claiming that the other did not have the right to exist as a state.
  • Oslo II

    Arafat and Rabin sign the Taba agreement, known as Oslo II, in Washington to expand Palestinian self-rule in the West Bank and Gaza and allow Palestinian elections. However, on November 4, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin is assassinated. He was assassinated by an orthodox jewish student who was opposed to Israeli withdrawals from the West Bank.

    Israeli citizens who were living in Gaza had to leave. Those who wouldn't leave where evicted from there homes. The evacuation was completed by September 15, 2005. Israel thought by evacuating Gaza peace would be made between Israel and Palestine and it would increase security of resident of Israel.

    aka the Gaza war. Israel launched a massive 22 day military assault on the Gaza strip. The attacks killed 1400 Palestinians most of them civilians.
  • Operation Protective Edge

    Operation Protective Edge
    In response to unceasing missile, rocket and mortar fire on civilian centers in Israel, Israel attacked the Gaza strip. The UN says at least 2,104 Palestinian died, including 1,462 civilians, of whom 495 were children and 253 women. However An Israeli government official said the Israel Defense Forces had killed 1,000 terrorists during the assault on Gaza.
