Muhammad is born in the Quraysh tribe in the city of Mecca -

Event 2
In cave at Mount Hira, Muhammad begins to have visions of the angel Gabriel and recieves messages from God. Muhammad begins spreading the messages and challenging to old ideas. The rulers of Mecca became worried as Muhammad's influence increased. -

Event 3
After being threatened, Muhammad and his followers leave Mecca and go to Medina (the name means "the Prophet's city"). This is known as the hegira and it marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar. Muhammad becaome both a political leader and spiritual leader. Other Arab tribes began to accept Muhammad. -

Event 4
After serveral years of fighting. hte city of Mecca surrenders. welcomes Muhammad bak, and accept Islam as their religion. The tribal idols in the Kaaba are destroyed so that it can be rededicated to worship of one god. -

Muhammad dies. The new leader , Abu Bakr, becomes the first caliph, a title that Muslims use for the highest leader of Islam. (In Arabic the word mean successor.) Under his rule, the Muslims conquered many land outside of Arabia. -

Abu Bakr dies. He made Arabia a united Muslim state. He is followed by leaders who encourags the armies to conquer more lands. -

The Pact of Umar is written. This treaty is like others made with the non-Muslims, often Jews and Christians, whose land was conquered. It protected them from attacks. -

A combined Arab and Berber army invades Spain and quickly conquered it. For the next 700 years, Muslims, called, Moors, ruled parts of Spain. -

At the Batle of Tours in what is now France, the Muslims are stopped invading the rest of Europe, determining that Europe would be Christians and not Muslim. -
