The Korean War
North Korean Communists launches a surprise attack on South Korea, overruling the Capital, Seoul. 75,000 soldiers from the North Korea marched across the 38th parallel. Korea was left in need of rehabilitation and distress. No official peace treaty was signed between the two. -
Seeds were planted
Brother Zubercoch and Abdul Rahman participated in the Korean War as military service members of the Turkish Army of the United Nations stationed in Korea. Teachings and preachings were held in a hut. They planted the seeds for Islam among the destruction of the war. -
Korean Muslim Committee
The Korean Muslim Committee was started. Umar Kim Jin Kyu as Chairman: Imam and Secretary General uhammad Yoon Doo Young.
Leaders were invited to visit Islamic Countries and some were sent to Muslim College in Malaysia to be trained as future Islamic workers and leaders. -
Donation of $33,000
The Malaysian Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman donated $33,000 for the Korean Muslim community to build a Mosque. -
Seoul Central Mosque completed and opened
Seoul Central Mosque is Korea's first and Seoul's only mosque. Lectures are held in three languages: Korean, English, and Arabic. The Mosque has three floors. The first is filled with meeting rooms and offices for the Korea Muslim Federation. The second floor is the mens prayer room and in 1990 the third floor was added and is now the women's prayer room. -
Pilgrimage to Mecca
Korean Muslims make pilgrimage to the holy land, The first pilgrimage was led by Haji Subri Set Jung Gil in 1960. One of the largest groups consisted of 132 persons in 1978. -
Promise of land
The then prime Minister Choi Gyu Hwa promised to King Khalid of Saudia Arabia to donate the land for the construction of Korea Islamic College during the joint comminique. -
Donation of land
130 thousand Pyongs of land was donated for the construction of Islamic College in Yongin, Gyunggi-do, Korea. -
W.A.M.Y. Seoul Regional camp
World Assembly of Muslim Youth is an international islamic education organization. The main goal of the camp is to strengthen the identity of Muslim youth and address and discuss the challenges they are confronted with. -
Opening ceremony- Anyang Rabita Al-Alam Al-Islamic
Rabitat al-Alam al-Islami (The Muslim World League) is a Pan-Islamic religious charitable organization. The organization provides funds for construction of mosques, financial relief for Muslims, and helps distribute copies of the Qur'an. They reject all acts of violence and promote dialogue with people of other cultures. -
50 Year Anniversary
Sponsored by the Korea-Middle East Association, Muslims celebrated 50 years in Korea. Korea now has about 100,000 Muslims, more than 30 percent of whom are Koreans. The day was celebrated with exhibits of Islamic art, cultural performances, film screenings, sport matches, and food festivals that were open to Muslims and non-Muslims.
