Land Owners
The only people that could vote where land owners. This limited it to initially white males over the age of 21 -
Naturalization Act of 1790
This allowed white men born outside of the United States to become citizens. This did not automatically grant the rights to vote because of the grant that's was brought to the states by the constitution. -
All white men
Whether you have land or not, you could now vote if you where a white male. You could be poor or rich. -
Fifteenth Amendment to the United States
This prevented states from denying the right to vote on grounds of "race, color, or previous condition of servitude" -
Dawes Act
All the Native Americans are granted citizenship and the right to vote, regardless of tribal affiliation. -
Wyoming
Wyoming was the first state to let women vote! -
Women are Able to Vote
Women are guaranteed the right to vote by the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution. -
Magnuson Act of 1943
This enabled Chinese immigrants the right to citizenship and the right to vote. -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
This prohibits racial discrimination in voting. This act secured the right to vote for racial minorities throughout the country, especially in the South. -
Voting age lowered to 18
26th Amendment passed, granting voting rights to 18-year-olds. The amendment is largely a result of Vietnam War-protests demanding a lowering of the voting age on the premise that people who are old enough to fight are old enough to vote. -
Voting materials are in different Languages
Amendments to Voting Rights Act require that certain voting materials be printed in languages besides English so that people who do not read English can participate in the voting process.
