Insulin is Discovered
First discovered by Frederick Banting and Charles H. Best, insulin is used to help patients with diabetes, which at the time was a disease that no matter what lead to death. The hormone was first discovered by testing on dogs, which resulted in the lowering of high blood glucose levels. -

Invention of Bubble Gum
Walter E. Diemer was the first to invent a successful chewing gum, when he invented it for the Fleer Chewing Gum Company in Philadelphia. The largest bubble ever to be blown from bubble gum measured 23 inches in diameter. -
Sliced Bread is Invented
Otto Frederick Rohwedder Created the first automated bread slicer machine in 1928. This enabled sliced bread to enter grocery stores for the first time, even though the concept had been created much earlier. -
First Academy Awards are Held
Douglas Fairbanks hosted the first Academy Awards in Los Angeles at a private dinner at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The event was presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
