Smelting of Iron and Steel was attempted near Mittagong, NSW. This was the first attempt in Australia.

Cast-Iron Foundry

Scott Clow and Prebble the first cast-iron foundry in Melbourne.

Victoria Iron Company.

Mar 2, 1873

The smelting of iron was attempted again by the Vicotria Iron Company.

Lal Lal Iron Mining Co. Ltd

Mar 2, 1874

The Victoria Iron Company became the Lal Lal Iron Mining Co. Ltd.

Blast Furnace

Mar 2, 1875

A small blast furnace was constructed and operated in the 1880's. An empolyee was sent to Britain to learn how to operate the new technology, it took 5 before satisfactory production was achieved.

Mittagong Plant

The plant was shut down due to the fact is was not economical.
