Tensions in Ireland
- In Ulster, there were differences between each county :
- Donegal, Cavan and Monhagan were nationalists and in favor of independence while the other counties were in favor of the britain monarchy

Easter Rising beginning
- It took place in Dublin city center and lasted for 6 days.
- The Irish volunteers, the Irish Republican Brotherhood and the Irish Citizen Army were opposed to the Royal Army and constabulery.
- The aims of easter Rising were the establishment of an independent Republic of Ireland and the end of British Rule in Ireland

Anglo-Irish Treaty
- It has been signed by the Irish Republican Army leader Collins and the principal founder of the Sinn Féin Party, Griffith.
- It established two new political entities :
- the Irish Free State, which was composed of 26 counties and was granted autonomous status within the British Empire
- Northern Ireland, made up of six counties (sometimes called the province of Ulster) which remained part of the United Kingdom
- Governments have been separated and british one has been delocated in Belfast

Beginning of the Irish Civil War
- The Anglo-Irish treaty split the Irish Republican Army into two groups :
- one (under Collins’s leadership) supporting the treaty
- the other (under de Valera’s leadership) opposing it
- The first group became the official Irish Free State Army, and the second group, called “Irregulars,” began to organize armed resistance against the new independent government.
- They fought for different visions of a free and independent Ireland
