The catholics protest started
They began protests because they were discriminated by the law. The IRA joined the battle and began a campaign of violence against the British soldiers who had been sent to Northern Ireland. The IRA wanted to unite the whole of Ireland. Bombs started to explode. Northern Ireland became a dangerous place. Belfast was divided by a "wall of shame" which even separated families. -

Bloody Sunday

They responded with a water cannon, gas and rubber bullets.
When the riot whas dispersed soldiers were ordered arrest the rioters. Some of these soldiers started shooting against the Irish civilian, killing thirteen men and injuring 13 others.
An official government inquiry began two weeks later but was considered a whitewash. -
The Guildford Four
Guildford Four was a group of four persons who were wrongly arrested for the placement of bombs and attempts in which 5 persons died attributed to the IRA. The British police had tortured Gerry Conlon, a member of the Guildford Four, into making a false confession. They spent 15 years in prison for a crime that they didn't do. The real originaters of Guildford's attempt have never been in prison. This event is considered to be one of the most serious judicial mistakes in United Kingdom. -
Birmingham Pub Bombings
The Birmingham pub bombings occurred on 21 November in Birmingham, England. Two bombs exploded in two pubs (the "Mulberry Bush" and the "Tavern in the Town") Theese bombs killed 21 people and injured 182. People telephoned to warn about the bombs, but the pubs were not evacuated in time. We have statements of people who were there, like a firemen or a woman who lost her best friend.
Six men were jailed for this, but justice has still not been done. There are a stone in victim's memory. -
Manchester Bombing
The bomb exploded in Manchester on 15 June 1996.
This happened at the same time that England played Scotland at Wembley in the Euro 96 football tournament. It was the last IRA bomb. The explosion caused damage to buildings, no-one was killed, but more than 200 people were injured by the effects of the blast -
The Belfast Agreement
The Belfast Agreement is also knows as Good Friday Agreement too. This is an important date because was the day in wich the Britsh and Irish gouverments signed the peace after 30 years of war. -
Omagh Bombing
This bomb was the biggest single atrocity in the history of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.Twenty-nine people were killed in the attack. -
The ceasefire.
This day was considerated the end of The Troubles for the majority of the people because the Irish National Liberation Army declarated cease fire.
