Factory Systems
Invented by Samuel Slator. All steps of manufacturing occured in one location. Built near water and mostly in New England. Brought machines and workers under one roof. Increased growth of cities. -
Cotton Gin
Invented by Eli Whitney, the cotton gin separated seeds from cotton. Revolutionized the textile industry, helped launch a huge cotton industry in the South. -
Interchangeable Parts
Invented by Eli Whitney,identical parts of an item that can be substituted in the manufacture or repair of that item. Started as a way to sell muskets to the U.S. military. It made the production of weapons much quicker. -
National Roads
Invented by Albert Gallatin, these roads were built from Maryland to Virginia and alllowed people to move about the country easier and aided with settlement of new areas. -
Steamboats
Invented by Robert Fulton, it was used for transportation of goods and people to trade. People could trade much faster. -
Erie Canal
Invent by Calhoun, waterway that linked NY city with Buffalo. It helped with the transportation. -
Lowell Mills
The Lowell Mills was a place where young and unmarried women came to work for 12 hour shifts.It increased job opportunities for young, unmarried women; gave chance for education; put some workers in danger. -
Telegraph
Invented by Samuel Morse,the telegraph was a machine used to communicate by tapping out codes that could be translated

Transcontinental Railroad
Invented by the Central Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad, the Transcontinental Railroad that connected the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. It improved transportation as goods and people would be connected as they moved west.
