Barometer
The barometer was invented by Evangelista Torricelli in 1643. A barometer is an instrument that is used for measuring atomospheric pressure. Torricelli filled a four foot long tube with mercury. After a few days he realized the height of the mercury chagned. He discovered this change was caused by the atmospheric pressure. -

Piano
The modern version of the piano was created by Bartolomeo Cristofori in the 1700s.He created the piano in Padua, Italy, where Ferdinando de' Medici, the Grand Prince of Tuscany, employedCristofori as the Keeper of Instruments. The piano changed society in great ways. When the piano was invented there was not a lot of entertainment options so the piano gave them music for plays and entertianment by itself. Also, it enhanced the music they already had. -
Sewing Machine
The first sewing machine was patent by Thomas Saint. He did not advertise his first sewing machine and used it for only leather and canvas. It is not proven that he did have a working model but most believe he did. Later in 1874, William Newton WIlson found Saint's drawings and modified the design. This modified, working machine is now in the London Science Museum. -

WIth the sewing machine, the task of making clothes, shoes, and other productrs so much easier. This allows for more production and for more product to be bought at a time. The time saved can be put into making the clothes a better quality and into the design of the product instead. -

The first electircal air conditioner was built by Willis Haviland Carrier. This air conditoiner could control the temperture and humidity of the air. Although is was invented in 1902, they were not residentially sold until the 1950s. -

The air conditioner changed society in positive ways by making living more comfortable during the hot summer months. Also, Air conditioning has made shopping easier by cooling down the stores and making shopping less of a chore when it its hot out. The air conditioner had changed society negatively because now many people stay inside during summer because they don't have to be in any heat. -
Total Artificial Heart
The total artificial heart replaces the two lower chambers of the heart. Many times it is used to keep someone alive while they wait for a heart transplant or if a person is not eligable for a heart translplant and is in the the end stage fo heart failure. This has changed society in a positive way by allowing people with diseases to live longer while they wait to get a transplant or let those with terminal diseases live a little bit longer.
