17th century
In 1620, the earliest human-powered submarine was invented by Cornelis Drebbel. It was the first underwater craft that was successful in replenishing breathable air while underwater. This was very significant to society because it is needed in the American Navy. It helps America while we are engaged in war with other countires. It was a safer way to secretly travel for American troops.A hinder on society could be that it can be unsafe to travel in asubmarine because a lot of things can go wrong. -
18th century
In 1722, French C. Hopffer invented the fire extinguisher. The fire extinguisher is a device that puts out a fire quickly and efficientally. It uses high pressure and extinguishing liquid to put out the fire. This helps society because it imporves the safety of my buildings and places. It could hinder society because it can also be dangerous to use if there is no fire. -
19th century
In 1819 René Laënnec invented the stethoscope. The stethoscope is used by doctors to listen to heart rhythms and breating patterns. Obviously this is an important invention because it prevents heart and breathing problems because it can help a doctor detect when things are wrong with a patient, whether it be a human or animal. Without the stethoscope our health would be more at risk because we could not hear clearly the sound patters our heart and lungs make. -

Unfortunately, the stethoscope can be inaccurate and that could cause extra medical expenses that do not need to be spent, therefore it could be a hinder on society but it is unlikely it will cause problems. -
20th century
In 1902 Willis Carrier invented the air conditioner.The air conditioner makes houses and buldings cooler in the hot heat of the summer. Without air condtioning more people could suffer from heat stroke and other various heat related sickness. It also improves the overall comfort level of society in the summer. A downfall of the air conditioner is the fact that they can be expensive and some people in society cannot afford them which leaves them left out in the hot, dry days of summer. -
21st century
In 2003 toyota invented their hybrid car. A hybrid car is a car that runs off of electricity as well as gas. Not only does this save the customermoney after awhile, it helps the environment and lowers gas prices. It could hinder society because they are not cheap and many people cannot afford them, and also it raises electrical bills.
