    After World War 2, Vietnam attempts to separate itself from the French, but the French ignore this request as well the US did. The North Vietnamese began to retaliate against encroaching French forces

    Eisenhower created the theory that if one nation falls to communism others around it will too.
  • Viet Minh defeats the French

    Viet Minh defeats the French
    When the French come to reclaim their colony, they are hit with the brutal reality the Viet Minh wish to stay independent.

    Geneva Accord splits Vietnam
    The Geneva Accord creates North and South Vietnam and creates their DMZ, the 17th parallel

    Knowing he will lose to Ho Chi Minh, Diem cancels the election process continuing to rule South Vietnam, keeping the country separated.

    US no longer gives support for South Vietnam leader
    Ngo Dinh Diem was harsh on communism like the USA but in their eyes was too extreme. The leader and his brother were both assassinated later on. His discriminate policies also cost him the US support

    Whilst the involvement in Vietnam is up for debate and the Civil Rights activity is increasing. One of the most beloved US Presidents is shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald
  • LBJ claims US Ship was attacked by the North Vietnamese

    LBJ claims US Ship was attacked by the North Vietnamese
    When the USS Maddox was reportedly fired upon by the North Vietnamese, LBJ came out to try and resolve it. Some believe it was fabricated so the US could involve itself in Vietnam.

    After the Tonkin Gulf Resolution, LBJ sends US Militants to Vietnam. Though the US already had military advisors there.
