  • Introduction to reading

The earliest memorable time reading a book began when I was around 1st or second grade. I remember being taken into the library with the rest of my class and it was like a new world unraveled before my eyes. The library was big and it was full of new and old books. One book caught my interest that I had seen countless times before. This was my first ever book. It was called Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I grew up with this book and it really impacted my childhood. It brought me into the world of reading
  • Reading in 3rd grade.

When I had begun 3rd grade I had gone to a new school with a larger library. With the new school a whole new variety of books came. The library had an even wider selection of books. At the time I was more into non-fiction. Being so into the Diary of a Wimpy kid series, the first book I picked up in that library was the next book from which I had left off in the series. I was really beginning to like reading as it brought me into a whole new world of mystery and excitement with each page.
  • Reading in 4th grade

I began to lose interest in reading books around 4th grade. During this time period, I would begin reading books for class that I had no interest in. I of course had to read these books as my grade would depend upon it. It however slowly made me lose the same excitement I had flipping through pages. i grew to hate reading and I didnt read much outside of school.
  • Reading in Intermediate school

When I had begun intermediate, I no longer wanted to read. However, I had a summer reading assignment which I had procrastinated on until I no longer had time to. When it came time to start my reading, I was assigned a book called A Long Walk to Water. This was a book that at first I had no interest in until I finally picked it up. What made this book so interesting to me was that it was based off of events that happened in my home country. Reading this book brought back my interest in reading.
  • Reading towards the end of intermediate.

Towards the end of intermediate school and entering the 6th grade, I wasn't so interested in reading. I rarely ever read anything and when there were silent reading periods in class, I would pretend to read while I was sleeping or daydreaming. I never looked at reading as a hobby or any kind of fun. To me I would rather spend my time playing video games or watching television. During this period in my life, I slowly stopped reading.
  • Reading in middle school

When middle school started, I was introduced to an entirely new library of different books. The day I had went into there I found a section of books I really liked to read. This is what brought back my interest in reading again. However it was only these books that I could stand reading. This specific genre always caught my attention, and they had come in series. I remember being so excited to finish one book so I could start the next in the series.
  • Reading in Lockdown

When Covid-19 had hit and schools had to be shut down, I completely stopped reading again. I noticed that i was in a cycle of regaining that interest of reading again than losing it. During the lock down, I hardly did any reading. It was one of the most unproductive periods in my life. My day was playing video games and watching TV everyday. Now that I couldnt go the library in school and get my favorite books, I no longer wanted to read anything.
  • High School reading Journey

When high school begun, I found myself in a new world. New classes, new teachers, and new school. There were so many people and it overwhelmed me. I didnt do much reading at the start of highschool, but as I got older my interest began to change, and I would soon learn that I was no longer interested in reading the same things. I began to pick up reading again shortly after beginning highschool and I learned why I always lost interest in reading and how to keep it.
  • Reading again in High School

As I developed throughout high school, my interest had completely changed. When I started becoming interested in business, I wanted to learn more. I had bought a book for the first time with my own money because I wanted to read it. I bought this book and read it front to end. I realized that reading wasn't about forcing yourself to read just anything, it was about finding what your interested in and reading about it. Because that's where you'll really find reading fun and exciting.
