Jon Krakauer heard radio calls from the base camp and Rob Hall requesting help. He also heard that Beck and Yasuko have died, and that Scott Fischer was missing somewhere on the peak. Hall got on the radio and said that he and Hansen were high on the summit and urgently needed oxygen. Andy Harris kept saying that the oxygen tanks on south summit were empty, but the oxygen tanks that Andy mistook as empty, were full.
