Inchon Landing
General MacAarthur orcestrates a tactical victory by landing thousands of troops at Inchon, a city just south of Seoul (Korea's capital). This took North Korea by surprise and the American troops were successfully able to cut vital lines of supply to communist troops further south. -
MacArthur writes Congress
Martin reads it into the Congressional Record for the benefit of the American people. In the letter, MacArthur recommends "meeting force with maximum counterforce" in Korea—comments construed to mean that the general favors the use of Chinese Nationalist troops from Taiwan in the fighting (an action which would almost certainly lead to full-scale war with Communist China and a possible world war). The Truman administration vehemently opposes such an expansion of the war. -

These burgulars were caught while trying to wire tap phones and steal secret documents. President Nixon attempted to help them cover it up after the fact and keep the FBI from investigating the burgulary. -

Two months after signing the Vietnam peace agreement, the last U.S. troops leave South Vietnam. After 8 years of fighting in Vietnam, the U.S. involvement was at an end. 7,000 Department of Defense employees stayed in Vietnam to help aid South Vietnamese. -

After two years of being accused of the Watergate Scandals, Nixon resigned as the 37th President of the United States. In his resignation speech, Nixon makes the comment that he no longer has a strong base in Congress so he must resign. -
