    In China, they would only accept silver and gold in trade. Howecer, Europeans discovered a drug called opium that they were willing to trade for. This gave Europeans the upper hand in trading with China because they could buy the drug cheaply in India and sell it for much more than they paid in China.     Starting in the 1700's, people around the world began to develope a sense of commonality. This was because of laguage, religion, social customs, and territory. This made it possible for different cultures to come together as one. It also united different diverse populations.     For many years, there was a change in food production and medical conditions. All of this started after Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain and discovered America. Soon after, what was called the Columbian Exchange began. In the Columbian Exchange, food and other products from the Americas came over to Afroeurasia, such as potatoes, sweat potatoes and corn.     Irish Migrants This was a great time of migration. People, such as the Irish, would leave their home and never reaturn because of poor living conditions. Many people Migrated to America. However, there were also those who would migrate away, and them return. These were called seasonal migrants. Some example of seasonal migrants are Italians going to work in Argentina.

    American Revolution During this time, France was involved in many wars. They helped the American's gain their independence during the American Revolution. This used up many of Frane's resources and money, this left their people suffering. The French people became unhappy and revolted. This used up much of France's army. This resulted in their holds on Latin American Colonies loosening and created oppoutunities to revolt.

    On this date the National Assemby of France approved the Declaration of the Rights of Man. This is much like the United States Declaration of Independence. The people of France were unhappy with their government and felt that they deserved more rights. Events that led up to this were many outbreaks and uprisings.     Britain Made It Illegal To Carry or Import Slaves From Africa
    Slavery was a wide spread concept and a main source of labor. This was also a common way to make money, people would pay a lot of money for slaves. Many countries imported captured slaves from Africa and sold them. In 1807, Britain, along with the U.S. made it illegal to carry or import slaves from Africa.     Brazil and Britain
    In 1831 Brazil and Britain sign a treaty to end slave trade. This treaty goes into effect and slave trade becomes illegal. However, they continue to illegally import over a half-million slaves.     In this time period many European countries wanted control of Africa. Many valuable natural resources such as diamonds had been discovered. This is known as the Scramble for Africa. Britain also took control of much of India and modernized it. All of this bennefited Britain.

    France, as well as many other European countries, controled part of Africa. Some of the other European countries that had colonized Africa were Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Germany. Africa was a very valuable area at this time because there were many natural resources and minerals such as diamonds and coal.
