This time also brought along two types of people:robber barons and captains of industry. Robber barons are people who just got rich from industry. Captains of Industry were people who helped by making useful inventions or helped a lot in producing goods. -

president John Adams in 1798 signed the Alien and Sedition Acts which limited the ability of immigrants, especially radicals from France and Ireland, to gain full political rights. This favored the Nativism in america. -

This was prohibiting all immigration of Chinese laborers. They did this because people back then were prejudice against chinese people and there were also a lot of stereotypes against chinese people. This sent most chinese back to their original culture. -

Tringle Shirtwaist Factory opens
This was a factory that produced a type of clothing called shirtwaists. The workers were treated very poorly and workers went on strike to protest against the working conditions. They formed groups called labor unions. This factory also used children to work called child labor. -
Ellis Island opens to immigrants
This was the island that immigrants had to go to in order to get into the United States. When this opened, a lot of immigrants entered the US and the US population went up by a lot. They were trying to get to the American Dream. Immigrants had to naturalize and adapt to American culture and language -
Trust Busting begins
Theodore becomes president and starts buying out trusts and monopolies to help make the economy better for citizens. -
Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
This was when the Triangle Shirtwaist factory caught on fire, killing 146 people total. No one could escape because the owner of the factory kept the doors locked. This caused the labor movement theat changed the way people worked. -
Assembly Line invented
Henry Ford invents the first assembly line, making cars much easier to produce.Assembly lines helped make goods such as cars a lot easier. Automobiles became much more cheap and reliable. The assembly line also used division of labor so that each person was in charge of only one job. -
Women get the right to vote
The 19th amendment is passed and women are allowed to vote in the US. This is also known as women's suffrage. -
Immigration Act of 1924
This made only a certain amount of immigrants in to the country.
There were waves of immigration like 1820-1860, Great Britain, Ireland, and Western Germany. or 1860-1890, The above countries continued to provide, as well as Scandinavian Nations. and 1890-1910, The majority was Austria, Hungary, Italy, and Russia, up until World War 1. -
Child Labor ends
This made it so that children under the age of 16 couldn't get a job, This ended child labor in the US. -
