Samuel Slater: Stringing it all together
Samuel Slater invented what could be considered the fiirst step in making factorties by combining several thread-related machines that originaly did their tasks seperately. By combining the machines, he could move from one step in the process to another nearly instantly, saving the time it originaly took to move the end result of one machine to the starting place of another. -
Francis Cabbot Lowel: milling around
Francis Lowell was the first person to put all of the machines nessesary for making cotton cloth in one building. While Samuel Slater made the machine part of the factory system, he was more famous for bringing the revolution to america. Lowell made the first Factory out of it.
Another thing that Lowell is famous for is being the first employer in America (and possibly Europe too) to hire Women and children in his factory, mostly at smaller wages, but with benifits better than being a housewife. -
Henry Ford:Keeping it moving
Henry Ford was the first person to install conveyor belts into an assembly line system, which became the fastest methood of probuction. The reason for it being so effective is that you only have to wait the full build time of a car once, then it getss shortend to the longest step. For example, asebling cars one at a time takes 35 minuets, but asebling several at once takes 35 minuets for the first one, but a new one is made every 20 minuets. Electricity, motors, and speed
When you add together conected machines, more workers, elecrtic motors, assembly lines and, new to factories today, robots, you get a factory that churns out products in the fastest way possible, faster than anything anyone from 1793 could have dreamed of.
