St. Louis was Founded
Pierre Laclede Liguest and Auguste Choteau founded St. Louis as a fur trading post. It was selected because it was near the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. -
Steam Engine
James Watt developed a new engine that was run by steam. -
Power Loom
Edmund Cartwrght designed the power loom that would help mass produce cheap and light cloth. -
First Cotton Mill
Samuel Slater built the first cotton mill in the United States by emigrating to the United States with memorized ideas on how to build one from Great Britain. The first cotton mill was built in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. -
The Clermont was successful.
The Clermont was the first successful steamboat and was made by Robert Fulton. -
Boston Manufacturing Company
Francis Lowell and several associaties, observed British textile mills and started their own textile mills in the United States. At this time the Boston Manufacturing Company was created and the Lowell mills were born. -
