A lot of women were still working from home in poor working conditions and getting paid half of what a man made. Even though women were being treated unfairly in factories, it was better than before.

    James Hargreaves invented the Spinning Jenny. This was used for spinning thread and would be used in factories.

    Mary Katherine Goddard
    Mary Katherine Goddard became the first woman to open up a bookstore. With the popularity of the store, her job had more responsibilities and the government tried to take her job away saying a woman couldn't handle it. Over 200 businessman signed a petition defending her.

    This act was to help improve working conditions and prohibit women from working jobs deemed unsafe for them at the time, this prohibited mining.

    Margaret Knight, a notable female inventor, receives a patent for one of her inventions she thought of while working in a shop- the brown paper bag. She has been called a female version of Thomas Edison

    Many employed women were married and going to have children, they were conflicted because they needed to work for the money but also needed time for their kids (there was no maternity leave yet). This is when a group of women working in a saw mill were able to start saving some money without their husbands knowing. Women received 5% interest on accounts with over 10s in credit.
