  • Preseverving The Culture

    The Cherokee Indians were highly pressured to act, dress, talk, and write like the Americans. Missionaries went around in Cherokee territory teaching them how to read, write and act like Americans
  • The Writen Laguage

    Sequoyah created the first ever Cherokee written, and spoken language. After this their society prospered
  • Education

    At a certain point the education system that the Cherokee Indians put into place was better than any other in the U.S. It came to this because they were pressured by white people and they would be neglected if they didn't know how to read or write
  • Government

    The Cherokee created a democracy, and they elected people to run their tribes. The Cherokee based their government on the U.S.
  • The Treaty of New Echota

    This document stated that all Indians didn't have to get permission from the U.S, to move to a Indian reserve out west.
  • Getting Back

    Due to the fact that many Georgians were going into Cherokee territory, they tried to sue Georgia on many occasions. Two of these law suites made it to supreme court, but once they got there, they were put aside and never brought back up.
  • The Indian removal act

    President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian removal act which gave the Cherokee 2 years to move. If you didn't move before the dead line then you were forced by the U.S. military, and the only belongings you took was what you were wearing.
  • Georgia's Response

    When the Indian Removal act was put into play Georgia immediately stated the law of the land was, if you don't move before the land was sold you got thrown out.
  • Trail of tears

    After 2 of the Indian removal being in place many Native Americans were forced to leave their homes and move west. The only items they took were the clothes on their back. It took several months to arrive to the Indian reserve. Many died due to starvation, frostbite, and a plague.
  • Getting Lucky

    Although it was sad that all those Native Americans lost their land they did get something out of it. Once they arrived at the end of the Trail Of Tiers they realized that this land looked a lot like where they just came from
