  • Period: 90,000 BCE to 5000 BCE

    Prehistoric Era

    This era was the start of the spreading of human population through all the continents. Scientists believed that humans started living in Africa before different populations emerged throughout the world. This is why we have genetic similarities. This era was also the beginning of farming and sea for goods. Seafood increased with the rise of sea levels. Grains like barely, wheat, and rice were early crops. Yams and bananas were cultivated on islands like New Guinea. Boats and rafts were also used
  • Period: 5000 BCE to 1000 BCE

    Ancient Era

    In this era, trading goods like cotton, pottery, copper, and silver was very common. They also used cowrie shells as money. The Austronesians traveled by boat to explore Southeast Asia. With a growing population, they needed to search for more resources. These people used camels, starting writing. and created the wheel in this era. Irrigation was a big technology because it let farmers grow crops in more locations rather than next to places with seasonal flooding or excessive rainfall.
  • Period: 1000 BCE to 300

    Classical Era

    This era enhanced our travel. With the updated technologies for boats, like the ancient fishing boat that can be used without a sail, made sea travel easier to find resources. New goods emerged like silk, sugar cane, cloves, and pearls. Indigo Dye was cultivated and was pigment from a plant to make ink for writing. Alexander the Great was a traveler and led the biggest army. He conquered most land. The Phoenicians also dominated trade and travel. They also specialized in making glass products.
  • Period: 300 to 1450

    Medieval Era

    Travelers in this area emerged from all over. Zheng He, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Ming led out for a diplomatic expedition. Prince Henry the Navigator and traveled to explore the African coast and try to defeat the Muslims from behind. Technologies during this era included the findings of longitude and latitude, gunpowder, paper, magnetic compass, and the lateen sail. These helped with enhancing our travel and helping our safety. Goods included nutmeg, mace, gun arabic, and origin of the teapot.
  • Period: 1450 to

    First Global Era

    This era is when the Ottoman Navy was strong. They created a center for navigation for their territories around the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Scurvy was a disease that caused problems with voyagers. It was caused by a lack of vitamin C so they had to carry tropical and citrus fruits to help cure that deadly disease. Silver, vanilla, pepper, coffee were all goods during this era. The spice trade were important spices. They were rare and expensive so the Dutch controlled this trade.

    Industrial & Imperial Eras

    Through NASA satellite they found the source of the Nile and it is Lake Victoria. Steam engine's were invented which opened new route in the Indian Ocean because of steamships. Mechanical refrigeration was also created. This was a huge moment in history to keep products chilled and keep food from spoiling. Goods included denim jeans, rattan furniture, rubber plantations, tin that was mined by the Chinese, ebony and teakwood. The East African Slave Trade unfortunately happened during this era.

    Twentieth Century and Globalization

    This era, which is 1914 to present day, has updated technologies to help with weather warnings, help desk call centers, vaccines and medications, supertankers, genetically modified high yield rice, air travel, communication satellites, and natural disaster relief. A traveler includes Gandhi who was an Indian political and spiritual leader. Goods are movies and animation production, uranium production in Australia, synthetic rubber, t-shirts, and petroleum. This era is our most evolved yet.
