The first official group was orgainized to work for the rights of Indians
The Indian National Congress attracted mainly Indian Hindus people. As they called new members and became better orgainized, they began to protest for Indian Independance from British Colonial Control. -
The Second offical group was orgainized to work for the rights of Indians
The Muslim League attracted Indians who were followers of Islam. They worked with the Indian National Congress to call Indian Independance from The British Colonial Control. -
The Vietminh League
When WWll began, Ho Chi Minh hoped that it would mean the end of French Rule in his country. Chi Minh helped to found a group named The Vietminh League. This group hoped to make Independace for the country but unfortunately was regained by French Rule after the War. -
The Rowlatt Act was formed
The Rowlatt act gave the British power to send Indians to jail for up to 2 years without a trial. -
The Massacre at Amritsar
British authorities opened fire on a large gathering of Indians in the town of Amritsar, claiming they were gathering illegally. Over 400 people were killed and another 1200 wounded. The massacre made Indians all over the world furious and almost overnight they united in a call for complete independance. -
Civil Disobediance Movement
The non-violent refusal to obey an unfair law. Led by Mohandas Gandhi. Gandhi urged Indians to refuse to cooperate with the British laws they thought were unjust. Gandhi urged the people protest peacefully. -
Indochinese Communist Party was first Organized
Ho Chi Minh organized an Indochinese Communist Party and began to stage protests againts French Rule. His follwers were put in jail and Chi Minh fled the country to avoid the death penalty. -
Government of India Act
The Government of India Act gave some self-government. This only gave Indians part of the Independance that they origionally desired, howerver, it was a start to freedom. -
India finally found Independance
British rule came to end and the individual countries of India, West Pakistan, and East Pakistan were created. -
French Surrendered the country to Ho Chi Minh
All parties to the conflict went to Geneva, Switzerland for a confrenceto end French involvement in Vietnam. -
The Geneva Conference
The U.S became alarmed at Ho Chi Minh ruling the country. The U.S. saw Chi Minh as a communist rather than a nationalist leader and feared that Vietnam would lead other countries in the area to become communtist as well. The U.S. used it influence to temporaroly divide Vietnam in two. Ho Chi Minh in charge of the north and the U.S. in charge of the south. -
The First Vietnam Elections

The U.S. Withdrew its forces from Vietnam
The forces of North Vietnam took over control the next day and claimed the country as The Republic of Vietnam.
