    The Start of the Korean War
    This event was very important in Korean history and impacted most of the lives in Korea. This was when the Korean peninsula was divided into two, North and South. The UN supported the South when the Soviet union the North. This event was very important to me because this was the reason why I fled North Korea and wasn’t able to go back for 63 years.
  • The Flee to South Korea

    The Flee to South Korea
    This was the day that I finally decided to flee my home country, North Korea. I was planning to flee for just about 3 days because my mother and I expected the war to be over soon. This was a very important event in my life because if I haven’t had decided to flee at this point in time, I probably wouldn’t have the life I have right now.
  • Officially Became a Soldier

    Officially Became a Soldier
    I finally found a way to survive in South Korea. When I first arrived in South Korea, I had nothing; no food, family members, money, nothing. By becoming a soldier, I was able to really fight for what I thought was right and supported, even though it was against my home country. I was provided with the food that I needed daily. Also, by joining the army, I was able to get my first job.
  • Entered College

    Entered College
    After seeing a notice that they were letting soldiers take enrollment tests to a Military Academy, which is like a college, I was able to get ready and pass this exam. After passing this exam, I was able to attend this school and study to have a job as a soldier. By starting to go to this college, I was able to have an actual job to support the needs of my daily life.
  • The End of the Korean War

    The End of the Korean War
    This day the war ended was the day I felt releaved that I survived such a violent war. However, this was the day when the Korean peninsula officially divided into two, North and South. Because of this reason, I wasn't able to go back to North Korea, to my family. It had already been much more than 3 days. I've tried to find my way back but it never seemed to work and at the same time, I did not want to leave South Korea to go to North Korea. However, I miss my family dearly.
  • Graduation from the Military Academy

    Marriage
    I was able to meet the girl of my dreams. This was the day that I got married and started my own family. Before this point, I had no one to depend on, not a single-family member. However, by marrying my wife, I was able to start my own family and really settle down in South Korea.
  • Part of the Vietnam War as the General of Corps
