In 1944 elections held in southern states in which only whites voters were permitted to participate. the white primary ruled Texas and it was unconstitutional.it forced Georgia to allow African Americans to vote in the democratic primary. it involved Eugene Talmadge and his son, Herman Talmadge. -
Integration of the Armed Forces
in July, 26, 1948 Harry Truman signed this executive order establishing the Presidents Committee on Equality of treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services. -
Brown v. Board of Education
May, 17th, 1954, brown v. Board of Education took place in Topeka Kansas, it was a land mark for United States Supreme Court. in which court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. -

the flag was changed in 1956, because it was not a flag everyone liked. so they changed it so everyone would like it and so it wouldn't be against anyone. it was designed by a southern democrat John Sammons Bell, who was a outspoken supporter of segregation. he was also a World War 2 veteran and an attorney. -
Sibley Commission
they were forced to close public schools or complying with a federal order to desegregate them. the committee was charged with gathering state residents, sentiments about desegregation and reporting back to the governor. -

The Albany Movement was a coalition formed in Albany, GA, November 17 1961. it was caused by racial segregation, Desegregation order from Interstate Commerce Commission. it was one of the first mass movement towards civil rights. jailed 1000 African Americans. -
March on Washington
The purpose of the March on Washington was so more people could have jobs and so more people could have freedom. and was held in Washington D.C. 200,000-300,000 people participated. the attraction of the march was Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech. -

The Civil Rights act abolished Segregation in public places and banned employment. it is one of the crowning legislative achievements of the Civil Rights Movement. it was passed by Lyndon B. Johnson. -
Bloody Sunday
happened in Selma, Alabama. about six hundred people led by John Lewis and Hosea Williams began a fifty-four mile march from Selma, Alabama to the state capitol in Montgomery.
