Magna Carta
included guarantees of such fundemental rights as trial by jury nd due process of law (protection against the abritrary taking of life, liberty, or property). -
English Bill of Rights
The English Bill of Rights prohibited a standing army in peacetime, except w/consent of parliament, and required all parliament elections to be free. -
Albany Plan of Union
plan proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1754 that aimed to unite the 13 colonies for trade, military, and other purposes; the plan wa turned down by the colonies and the Crown. -
Boston Tea Party
On Dec. 16 1773 colonist did not want to pay tax on tea. They dumped the tea in the boston harbor. -
First Continental Congresss
In 1774 the First Continental Congress was passed. These new laws denounced in america as the intolerable acts, prompted widespread calls for a meeting og the colonies. -
Second Continental Congress
In 1775 the second cont. Congress became a law. British gov. refused to compromise and these laws have stricter and more repressive measures. -
Declaration of Independence
On July 4th, 1776, the final break from england was two days prior, they adopted the Declaration of Independence. -
Articles of Confederation
during it the Second Continental Congress fought a war, raised armies and a navy, borrowed funds, bought supplies, created a money system, made treaties with foreign powers.
