Charles Babbage, first mechanical computer
In 1822 Charles Babbage began the construction and development of the the Differece Engine which was the first automatic computing machine. The computor could process multiple sets of numbers at once and create hard paper copies. -
Konrad Zuse, First programmable computer, Z1
The programmable computer was built by Konrad Zuse in 1936 and was finished 1938 in his parents livingroom. The Z1 as it is called, is considered to be the first electro-mechanical computer. It was able to process 64 words and had a clock speed of 1hz. A fullt functional replica, built by Zuse from 1986-89, is now on dispay in the Science Museum in London. -
Macintosh
Before the Macintosh, more resembled typewriters than the computers know today. They were only able to process words and some numbers. However Apple changed all of that with the Macintosh. It was the first homecomputer and completely changed how computers were used. The Macintosh was designed to help student and office workers. It was able to store and process a lot of information and was a more effecient way for people to work. It is the foundation for all computer appliences we use today. -
Bill Gates, Windows launch
Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Microsoft in 1975 and quickly became the leading computer operating system providers. In the early 80s Microsoft started the creation of the program called Interface Manager. It was later announced in 1983 as Windows and was released in 1985. The operating system became the most popular operating system for personal computers and Microsoft grew to become one of the most powerful companies in the world.

What is the Internet? (extension)
The idea of the internet is actually quite simple. It is what it can do that is so revolutionary. What the internet is, is just being able to send information from one unit to another without the use of cables. It is what this simple concept can do that is so amazing. This simple concept has given us the oppurtunity to look at videos, look up information and send messages. Its amazing. Can we really imagine what the world would be without the internet? -
Launch of the internet
The Internet, or what we know as the Internet, was created in 1991 as the World wide web. This invention was probably the most revolutionary invention of our time. It has allowed humans to connect and communicate from anywhere without the use of cabels or wires. Actually it wasn't just one person who created it. What we know as the World wide web was the combination of a wide arrangement of ideas which were created by different people in different times.
