  • Assassination of Franz Ferdinand

    Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
    Archduke and his wife were assasinated by a seberian terrorist,Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Black Hand. He jumped untop the car and shot both he duke and his wife during a parde in Sarajevo, Bosina. This is what sparked the bomb for WW1.
  • Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia.

  • Russia mobilizes to support Serbia

    Russia had an alliance with Serbia, they knew Serbia would be easy to beat by it's self. So Russia moblized thier trops inorder to help defend Serbia.
  • Germany declares war on Russia

    Due to the alliance that Germany mande with Austria-Hungary they declared war on Russia.
  • Germany declares war on France.

  • Great Britian declares war on Germany.

    Germany invades Belgium using the Schlieffen Plan so Britian decides to declare war on Germany.
  • Austria-Hungary declares war on Russia.

  • Britian and France declare war on Austria-Hungary.

  • Second Battle of Ypres

    Second Battle of Ypres
    The second battle of Ypres was Canada’s first major war. It was fought in Belgium from April 22-26 1915. The German’s began to use chlorine gas as a deadly weapon. Luckily, Captain Scrimger (Canadian Medical Officer) figured out a handkerchief soaked in urine held over the nose and mouth was the antidote to fight against chlorine gas. The Germans had about 35,00 casualties and 6,035 Canadian soliders were eithered killed wounded or captured during the second battle of Ypres.
  • German's Torpedo the Passenger liner Lusitania

    The Germans torpedoed the passenger liner Lusitania, sinking it along with the loss of 1,196 lives. The Americans were higly upset and later joined the war siding with the allies in 1917.
  • The Battle of the Somme

    The Battle of the Somme
    The Battle of the Somme was fought in France from July-November 1916 in France. General leader Douglas Haig(seen in the picture) planned on bombarding the German’s by going over the trenches into no mans land with heavy artillery. On July 1st his plan had failed and the allied troops were killed. In September Canadian troops were added to the offensive with new weapons and an armored tank.
  • Battle of Vimy Ridge

    Battle of Vimy Ridge
    The Battle of Vimy Ridge was fought in France on April 1917 and was recognized as a great moment in Canadian history. The troops were led by Canadian General Arthur Currie(seen in the picture) as which led to the Canadians taking over the Ridge in 3 days.
  • America delcares war on Germany.

  • The Battle of Passchendaele

    Battle of Passchendaele was fought in Belgium on July-November 1917. Fighting was very difficult due to the background conditions, it was very muddy.
    On November 10th, the Canadians finally captured Passchendaele.
  • Germany Signs an Armistice, Officially ending WW1.

    Germany Signs an Armistice, Officially ending WW1.
    Armistice is an agreement between both the Germans and the Allies to end the war. It's remebered as the offical ending of World War I.

    The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty that stated certain punishments towards Germany.
