The german city of Hamburg was continuously bombed during July 24 1943 to August 3 1943. About 40 000 died, 37 000 were wounded and almost all the city was destroyed. The Amricans and the British were the cause of this event. The Americans during the day and the British during the night. This provoced the largest firestorm in the World War II. -

An American and Japonese encounter
In the Solomon Island, in Vela Gulf an encounter between 6 american destroyers and 4 japonese destroyers each carrying troops and supplies to Kolombangara turns out really bad. 3 of the japanese destroyers get sunk by the Americans. -
In Sicily
The Anericans land a small troop east of Sant Agata for and operation needing 1 cruiser and 3 destroyers. The Germans withdraw and the US force take Sant Agata and Cesaro. Whilt the British forces capture Bronte and Acireale. -

Plotava is threaten
On the Eastern Front, near Kharkov, Chuguyev is captured by Soviet forces. They also threaten Plotava which is very important for the possession of Kharkov and would confuse German defenses farther south. But, the Germans pull the 3rd Panzer Corps out of the Taganrog fighting to address the threat to Plotava. -

The Red Army close in on Kharkov, taking Bolshaya and Danilovka. Another attack against Smolensk result in the capture of Bolshaya and Danilovka. -
An invasion of Kiska Island commences
3 american battleship help 34 000 US and Canadian troops arrive on Kisks Island. The Japonese evacuated the island by the end of July. But saddly the US and Canadian troops failed to notice this evacuation. -
In Sicily
In Sicily, American General Patton's troops arrive in Messina. About 40,000 German troops with 50 tanks and 100 guns plus a large quantity of supplies and 62,000 Italian troops have been evacuated from the island to Italy, across the Messina Strait. About 10,000 Germans have been killed or captured. More than 100,000 Italians have been taken prisoner. Allied forces has suffer 7000 killed and 15,000 wounded. -

German pulling out of Kharkov
German forces begin to withdraw from Kharkov under pressure from Soviet forces. Field Marshal Manstein, commanding Army Group South, believed that holding out any longer would result in the encirclement and destruction of the defending German units. -
