Virginia Dare was born in Jamestown. She was the first English baby born in America. -
John White returns to England to get more supplies
John White leaves the colony to go back to England for supplies. He left 7 assistants in charge of the colony. He gave strict instructions if they were to leave. If they left in search of food, etc to carve their destination in a few trees nearby. But if they were to leave because of Indian attacks to cross out they name of the destination. The red on the map shows where he was going, the green is John White coming back. -
John White returns to Roanoke to find it had vanished
John White comes back to Roanoke after 3 years. he took so long because at the time England and Spain were at war and Spain controlled the part of the sea he neede to cross to go back. When he finds the colony abandoned and looks around. He soon finds the word CROATOAN carved into a tree. He and his men then go to Coratoan Island but the settlers are not there. To this day we still don't know what happened to the colony. It is now known as "The Lost Colony." -

King James gave a charter to the Virginia Company of London a charter to form a colony in America. -

John Rolfe plants first tobacco
John Rolfe had foreign tobacco seeds and he planted the first of it in 1612. They didn't grow enough to send to England and sell until 1619 though. -
John Rolfe and Pochontas get married
John Rolfe,man who introduced tobacco to the colony, married a Native American chief's daughter, Pocahontas. This is important because it improved the relationship between the colonists of Jamestown and the Indians of that tribe, -
House Of Burgessses was formed
House Of Burgesses was the first form of Representative Government in America. -
The Mayflower dropped anchor at Plymoth
The Pilgrims reached land at Plymouth Harbor after 9 weeks at sea. They had 101 out of the 102 they left England with still alive. -
Mayflower Compact was signed
The Pilgrims signed this document while on board the "Mayflower" and while docked at Provincetown Harbor. It states that all Pilgrims would stay loyal to the colony and give their labor. Some say this is the first American Constitution.
