  • Washington DC choson as nation capital

    [Political]
    In the year 1790, the government chose to move the capital of the United States to the middle of Virginia. They chose this position because at the time, there was only 13 colonies. The position they picked was in the middle of all 13 colonies.
  • The Whiskey Rebellion

    [Political]
    The Whiskey rebellion happened as a protest against the taxes put on farmers making whiskey. These rebellions held place in western Pennsylvania.
  • Eli Whitney Invents the Cotton Gin

    [Social]
    For years people have been getting the seeds out of cotton with man power. In 1793 Eli Whitney invented a machine that automatically took the seeds out of the cotton faster then man power.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    [Political]
    The French wanted to make an empire in North America, however, after their defeat in Haiti, they saw no use for the Lousisiana territory and sold it to the United States. This doubled the land area of the United States.
  • Louis and Clark Expedition

    [Political]
    After the United States purchased the Lousisiana territory from France, they wanted people to explore it. The government then sent out Louis and Clark to explored the newly purchased territory.
  • The National Road is built

    [Social]
    America needed a way to connect the nation, they made a road connecting West Virginia to Indiana. This made travelling faster between the eastern and western states.
  • Missouri Compromise

    [Social]
    The Missouri Compromise abolished slavery in some of the new western states. Along with abolishing slavery in Northern states, this helped America later on with abolishing slavery throughout the whole nation.
  • The Erie Canal is Made

    [Social]
    People wanted a water route from New York to the Atlantic Ocean. So many men started digging a canal to connect them. After years of work it was finally completed in 1825. This helped transportation from New York to the Atlantic Ocean greatly.
  • Northern States Ban Slavery

    [Social]
    In 1840, the government banned all slavery in the northern states (Pennsylvania and above). This helped abolish slavery through out the whole country later on in American history.
  • US gains Florida from Spain

    [Political]
    For years the Spanish ruled the Florida territory but then after a war, they sold it to the United States. This expanded the United States in the south.
