David Livingstone found
Henry Morton Stanley had been sent to find him by the New York Herald newspaper in 1869. He found Livingstone in the town of Ujiji on the shores of Lake Tanganyika on 10 November 1871, greeting him with the now famous words "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" -
Queen Victoria Crowned Empress of India
India was already under crown control after 1858, but this title was a gesture to link the monarchy with the empire further and bind India more closely to Britain. -
Indian National Congress formed
Queen Victoria gave the Indians more rights, so that they were less likely to rebel. -
Revolution of 1911
China ended the monarchy through revolution and instated a Democracy instead.
