    Fall of Mughal Empire

    The Fall of the Mughal empire was a long period. The fall is caused y foreigners such as the British East India Company coming to India. India was overpowered and the fall of their empire began.
  • First Major Famine Under British Rule

    This was the first major famine in India created under British rule. They did it by taxing the farmers by a ridiculous amount, and not giving farmers enough food. Another purpose for starving the Indian people is because it prevented revolts and allowed the British government to start making them slaves.

    The First Opium War

    The Opium War was caused by the import of opium by the British, which didn’t stop. But once China tried to stop it, the British started the war. The British ended up winning with the Treaty of Nanking.
  • Treaty of Nanking

    This treaty was between China and Britain after the Opium War. It gave the British 11 trading ports, ownership Hong Kong, and China had to pay for the war. The British people were also given extraterritorial rights in China.

    Taiping Movement

    This was a rebellion made up by 1 million peasants. Their objective was to overthrow the Chinese government. But internal fighting and outside assault brought the movement down.
  • Commodore Matthew Perry Arrives in Japan

    Commodore Matthew Perry arrives in Japan, in hopes of establishing trading ports with them. He arrives in Japan with many naval ships, almost forcing Japan to cooperate. This is then when Japan realizes they need to be stronger.
  • Treaty of Kanagawa

    This Treaty was between Japan and the United States. It forced Japan to open 2 trading ports to America. This allowed other western nations and China to follow as well, which helped other countries more than Japan.
  • Sepoy Mutiny

    The Sepoy Mutiny was a rebellion against the British East Indian Company. It was their soldiers fighting against their own army because of their employer's unfairness. One main factor was that the gunpowder cartridges were waterproofed with animal fat. The soldiers had to bite the sacks open but were against this because they were against eating animals, this ultimately led to the rebellion
  • India Becomes Part of British Empire

    After a lot of violence, the British Parliament transferred the leadership of the region from the British East India Company to the Crown. India was the most valued colony to Britain, so it was called Britain's, "Jewel In The Crown." This is because of the many resources and raw materials.

    in 1857, India was outpowered by British forces. The British East India Company was an Indian army hired by the British, their fighting ultimately overpowered India, making India part of the British Empire.

    Meiji Restoration

    The Meiji Restoration is a 45 year period under rule by Mutsuhito, where Japan modernizes. This gives Japan a whole new country, with new technology. They based on different aspects of their country based on other countries. Navy was based on Britain's navy, the military based on Germany's military, and education based on the United States' education system.

    Zulu War

    The Zulus from southern Africa, led by Shaka, fought the British. Nearly winning. But In July 1879 the Zulus lost the Battle of Ulundi. The British finally took their kingdom in 1887
  • Berlin Conference

    The Berlin conference took place in Berlin, Germany and was attended by leaders of many European countries. The purpose of this conference was how Africa was going to be split up by the European powers. This event came with a lot of publicity and sparked imperialism in Africa.
  • King Leopold II claims Congo

    After being ruled by Belgium, Leopold II takes the Congo for himself. This is when he starts his extreme acts of cruelty and slavery. He is responsible for the deaths of millions of people.

    Sino-Japanese War

    This war was between Japan and China for control over Korea. Japan ended up winning, making them real power and a competitor for the most powerful country. Japan winning also gave them their first colonies, Taiwan and the neighboring Pescadores Islands.
  • Battle of Adowa

    The Battle of Adowa was a battle between Ethiopian forces and Italy. led by Menelik II, with help from Russia and France. Menelik defeated the Italians. Ethiopia was the only African country that successfully resisted the Europeans.

    The Boxer Rebellion was caused by Chinese citizens not liking foreigners in their country. So they started attacking and killing them. But ultimately they were outnumbered and powered by Chinese and foreign powers.

    The Boer War was between the Dutch settlers in Africa known as Boers, and the British. It was caused by the resources found in there and, and the British wanted them. The Boer resited, and The Boers used guerrilla war tactics against the British. The British then started burning Boer farms and arresting women and children and putting them in unsanitary concentration camps.

    Russo Japanese War

    This was when Japan defeated Russia, which shocked the world because it was the first time that an Asia country defeated a European one. The war was also for owning Manchuria. This victory allowed Japan to be a large, powerful, and respected country.
  • China Declares As a Republic

    After an overthrowing of the government, China became a republic. It was caused by a four-power group of foreign bankers. They were building a railway in central China. The Beijing government decided to take it over, forcing money to be lost, this caused the revolution then the republic was made.
