- Under the rule of Emperor Meiji.
- Restored parctical imperical rule to Japan.
- It brought the final demis of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
- The leaders of the restoration were mostly youn samurai.

- Also known as the Congo Conference (or the west Africa Conference)
- Regulate European trade in Africa.
- To create rules to peacefully divide Africa.
- The conference was proposed by Portugal.
- Conference was led by Otto Von Bismarck

The Congo Free State
- Leopold II was the the king of Belgium, and took the colony of Congo himself.
- If the townspeople could not provide the basket of ivory, then they would have to give a basket of hands.
- The Congo Free State became the site of one the worst international scandal.

The Boxer Rebelion
- Occurred in China.
- Another name for this rebellion was the Yihetuan Movement.
- Chinese secret society called the Yihequan.
- The “Boxers”, name was given by the westerners, practiced physical exercise that they thought would make them bulletproof.
- The “Boxers” killed many innocent people just because they were Christians
