Opium Wars
In the 1800's the British had been importing opium into China for goods such as silk or tea for a few decades. In 1839 the British kept smuggling opium into China even though China had made it illegal. This would then help Britain effectively overwhelm China leading to a lopsided treaty. -
Sepoy Rebellion
Sepoys were Indian soldiers who were against the idea of the British taking over them. They were unsuccessful as the British shut down the rebellion a year after it had started. -
David Livingstone found
David Livingstone ventured into Africa sometime during 1841 to map out the land and disappeared suddenly until he was found by Henry Morton Stanley, who would then continue Livingstone's expedition after he died. -
Queen Victoria crowned Empress of India
Not very long after the Sepoy Rebellion Queen Victoria was crowned the Empress of India. Even though she had complete control of the colony before she was crowned again more as a status quota and have another title. -
Boer War
Considered the first modern "total" war, the Boer war fought over the valuable gold and diamonds located at South Africa. The British overwhelmed the rebelling Boers and won the war. -
Boxer Rebellion
In 1899 peasants living in Beijing decided to set siege against the European portion of the city. The Chinese government did little to help the situation as it happened for over a year until European forces put an end to it.
