The East India Company was creating a lot of trade in India, and ended up controlling most of India. The British didn't rule India, the company did, but the British considered India one of the best countries in terms of goods. It became the most powerful company in the world. -

In China, illegal opium sales were big and everyone wanted them. 2 wars were fought, one between western Europe and the Qing dynasty, and the other was fought between the British and French against China. -
Suez Canal built
The Suez Canal was built in attempt to modernize Egypt. It connected the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. Though it did connect 2 bodies of water together succesfully, it was crazy expensive, and put Europe $450 million in debt. -
David Livingstone is found
The New York Herald sent Henry Morton Stanley to find Livingstone after being missing for several years. Livingstone had been mapping and traveling around the interior of Africa for several years without anyone hearing from him. -
Queen Victoria was crowned Empress of India
Before she was crowned empress, India was under the control of Britain already, so it was much easier for her to become Empress. It was a gesture to the Indian government about monarchy and bringing the Indians closer to the British empire. -
Boer War
The Boer war is viewed as the first modern war. It was between the British and the Boers, which were Dutch settlers. The war started because there were diamonds and gold, and the British wanted political power there.
