  • 1521

    Mexico

    In 1521, Spanish soldiers conquered Mexico. Spain introduced Christianity throughout Mexico, as well as gained profit and resources.
  • Australia

    Australia faced imperialism from Britain in 1788 and set up a peasant-like economy. Australia became a nation on January 1 1901.
  • Malaysia

    The British gained control over Malaysia in 1795 to protect and develop trade in tin-mining and rubber. There was huge growth in the economy because of this.
  • Indonesia

    The Dutch government gained control over Indonesia in 1796. In 1949, Indonesia declared their independence from the Dutch so now they're pretty much independent.
  • China

    I can't find a lot of info about China being imperialized, but I did find out that in 1839 Britain and China had a huge conflict which started the Opium wars. China faced foreign influence, famine, and poor management during this time, so Britain felt compelled to step in. This brought the fall of the Qing Empire.
  • New Zealand

    New Zealand became a British colony in 1840, and was granted full independence in 1931. This was probably very good for New Zealand because they were able to become more modernized.
  • India

    British government took over India in 1858, when the British Monarchy gained complete control over India's power through the Government of India Act. Through this imperial act, India gained better education, public health, and is more modernized now with roads and social networks.
  • Vietnam

    a France claimed "civilized mission" gave France a free pass to colonize Vietnam in the 1880s. Any economic progress made by Vietnam immediately went to France. in 1954, France was forced to withdraw from Vietnam under the Geneva Agreements.
  • Egypt

    Britain invaded Egypt in 1882, and controlled Egypt politically and economically until 1956. Currently, Egypt is thriving economically and has a decent government.
  • Sudan

    In 1882, Britain took over Sudan. When Britain cut off Sudan, Sudan had no way of keeping their management and was severely underdeveloped.
  • Congo

    In 1885, Belgium took over Congo and stripped them of all their resources. Nearly 10 million died due to lack of resources. In 1908, Belgium declared Congo independent from them
  • Kenya

    Kenya was colonized by Britain in 1901. Britain claimed Kenya's resources and forced their people to work on European farms. Kenya gained independence from Britain in 1963.
  • Philippines

    The United States seized the Philippines in 1898 as a result of their war between Spain. The Americans then helped the Philippines to become an independent nation.
  • Cuba

    Again, Cuba was taken over by America after the Americans won against Spain. Cuba is now on its own, but America can still "claim" Cuba.
  • Austria

    The German empire made the Habsburg monarchy follow Germany's foreign policy in 1938. Austria stayed with Germany until the end of World War II
