As more and more of the chinese population grew adicted to opium, China and Great Britain had tension greo and eventually the first battle broke out. For 2.5, China struggled as the British beat them on land and sea. Consequently, the Treaty of Nanking is agreed upon, which gave the British far more priviledges than before, and giving nothing in return to the Chinese

    David Livingstone, a christian and medical missionary, began exploring Africa. Upon his journey, he spread christian ideas and medical advancements. After several years of no thearing from Livingstone, people believed he was lost, leading to Sir Henry Morton Stanley to look for him.

    The Open Door Policy was enacted by the American government. It essentially dealt with trade in China and stated that all countries have access to any port in China opened for trade, but that only the Chines can collect tax on trade.
