Boer War
The boer war was the first modern "total war" and this was caused by a rebellion against the Boers, so they took arms up against the British. The Boers launched commando raids and used guerilla tactics against Britain. The British responded by imprisoning Boer women and children in concentration camps, and burning down their farms. In 1902 the Noers were joined into a self governing union that was controlled by the British.
