    John Cabot claims New Found Land.
    Like Columbus Mr. Cabot also came to Canada with hopes of finding what was known as the north west passage yet failed, not from lack of trying. However, what Mr. Cabot did find was fish, and lots of it. Just of the shore of Newfound Land he found a golden fishing spot that soon became a huge spot for fishermen from England.

    Jacques Cartier traveled from France and met with the Iroquois. Cartier's main accomplishment was establishing a French colony in Canada it was called Charlesbourg-Royal. This caused may French to immigrate to Canada because they now had a place to live.

    Henry Hudson is also a traveler that came to Canada. However his crew betrayed him and he died in what is now known as Hudson's Bay. His journey gave the British a spot for a trading post that would be able to transport furs easily. This caused British traders to move to Canada.

    Around 800 French women immigrated to New France known as the Kings Daughters to increase the population growth. Encouraging male Frenchmen to settle there and get married. they made sure that all of the woman were fertile and of age to give birth. these women were paid to immigrate.

    The English king grants a royal decree to the Hudson's Bay Company stating that it will have exclusive trading rights to the vast territory drained by rivers the flow into Hudson Bay. This caused many Englishmen to immigrate to Canada in search of jobs.

    the founding of Kingston, Ontario caused a new flood of immigrants from Europe to fill the space just like New France did.
  • The Highlands of Scotland

    The break-up of the clan system in the Highlands of Scotland in 1745 led to considerable emigration from Scotland. People were searching for a new beginning and Canada offered that.
  • Founding of Halifax

    2,500 British people were recruited by the government to immigrate to Canada and from another colony in Halifax. This would expand Great Britain's power and give them a good source of natural resources.

    This was a rout, made to help slaves in America flee their dire situations, that ran south toward Florida, it is said that by 1850, 100,000 slaves had escaped via this "Railroad" into Canada.

    During the American Revolution loyalists were exiled. these loyalists who seemingly had nowhere to go, traveled to New York and ended up in Nova Scotia seeking refuge in Canada

    The war of 1812 did not have a direct effect on immigration. However, it did cause the necessity of a larger population in Canada to be known, and given the growth rate the only way to accomplish this was through immigration.

    the Gold rush caused many to immigrate to Canada, especially the Chinese. They first appeared in large numbers in the Colony of Vancouver Island to be part of the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush in the newly declared Mainland.

    Manzo Nagano lands in New Westminster BC and was the first known Japanese person to immigrate and settle in Canada. He led the way for generations of Japanese immigrants in the years to come. They now have a mountain in BC named after him.
