    The Start of Arizona Immigration HIstory
    The first documented person who came into Arizona as an immigrant was Marcos de Niza. He was followed later in time by the more popular, Francisco Vásquez de Coronado. Coronado came to America because of stories that had been passed down of, "Seven Golden Cities." His expedition failed but he found major landmarks and enjoyed his time their before he went back to Mexico.

    The first settlement in Arizona was around the year of 1752. It was a white settlement and it occured in Tubac, Arizona.
  • Fort in Tucson

    Fort in Tucson
    This was the first fort built in Tucson, Arizona. It was made for the soldiers and their families to protect themselves against the Apache Indians that lurked around the area.
  • Naturalization Act

    This Act provides the first rules in the U.S. about immigration. It provided citizenship to people who were, "free white citizens." This did not include people who were African American, Indian, Asian, and other races.

    These four Acts were put in place to strengthen Americas national security. It allowed the President to deport aliens if they seemed dangerous. It also allowed them to be deported if their country was at war with the United States.

    The California Gold Rush was the discovery of gold and it brought a large amount of immigrant to California to check it out. It ended the year of 1855.
  • Mexican Revolution

    Mexican Revolution
    This revolution started when the liberals and intellectuals started doubting the power of Porfirio Díaz. Overall, the war led to a huge migration of Mexicans into the U.S. Because the war was so bad, many did not return bedause of the economic sitiutations.

    This act made sure that immigrants had to do extensive amounts of tests, including a literacy test, to get into the country.

    This was the year that WW1 ended and it lead to a dramatic decline in imigration.

    The Great Depression had its affects on everybody but during this time immigration was shut down. This led to a dramatic decrease in America.

    Because there were shortages in the U.S. at this point in time, they added in immigrants to the workforce. This led to an increase in immigration.
  • Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965

    Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965
    This Act helps reunite families and put skilled laborers into the American forces. It changed the demographics for future immigratns.
  • Naturalization Amendments

    This made changes to the Act previously put in place to limit the amount if Mexican immigrants in the western hemisphere.
  • Welfare Reform Act

    Welfare Reform Act
    This Act made it so that immigrants were ineligable for federal entitlement programs.
  • Senate Bill

    Senate Bill
    This Act would provide legal status to the 12 million illegal immigrants that already reside in the U.S.
