Diesease on the boat
The girl I am bunking with on the boat gets really sick in the night, and I get sick as well. I barely pass the immigration station exams. -
Without money in America
When my dad and I get off the boat in New York, a group of boys stole all of our possessions. We were left with nothing. -
Find work and a husband
I find work and go and live in a tenement. I work as a cook and watch over children. I meet my future husband, who works building the railroad. -
Timber coulture act
This act allowed everyone 160 additional acres of land if they were willing to plant some trees on the land. -
Resons to move west
My husbands work place had awful conditions. Also, his work was done w/ the railroad. Gold Rushes, mining, land, and opportunity. -
Alnoe with a child
I get pregnant, then my husband is shot. After the baby is born everything gets a lot harder for me- twice as much work. -
Land rush
I decide to go to Oklahoma in hopes of getting land for myself, and building a farm. I meet my next husband. -
Marriage
I get remarried, and together we participate in the land rush, and successfully claim our land. -
Family Farm
We build a farm, and have six more kids. We live the rest of our lives free of our previous hardship of poverty.
