All white born individuals need to have been a resident for five years to gain citizenship. -
Alien and Sedition Acts

This war lead to a massive crowd of immigrants to enter the United States. -
World War II (1939-1945)
Immigration halts during this period of time as blacks lend their help in the war effort in order to gain citizenship status. -
Alien Registration Act
Made it illegal for anyone in the United States to advocate, abet, or teach the desirability of overthrowing the government -
Civil Rights Act
This act outlawed major forms of discrimination against racial, ethnic, national and religious minorities, and women. -
The Refugee Act
To provide assistance and resettlement opportunities to admitted refugees, to the United States with the proper legal documentation status. -
Immigration Reform and Control Act
This law helped to perserve jobs to those who were legally entitled to them. It also established the I-9 form to prove documentary of their legal eligibility. This affect led to discrimination against those who appeared to be foreign. -
Immigration Act of 1990
Increased the limits on legal immigration entering the U.S. This act helped immigrants become eliglible for naturalization and bring over their family members, increasing the number of immigrants in the U.S. -
The US Patriot Act
Restricted the flow of immigrants and possible terroists from coming into the United States. -
The Secure Fence Act
This law would help secure America’s borders to decrease illegal entry, drug trafficking, and security threats by building 700 miles of physical barriers along the Mexican-U.S border. -
SB 1070
U.S. federal law requires aliens 14 years old or older who are in the country for longer than 30 days to register with the U.S. government and have registration documents in their possession at all time.
